  • Aspen Sojourner

    By Scott Lasser

Greg Poschman has made films about John Denver and Sting, but now he wants you to know that the beetles are coming.

Such is the premise of his latest movie, "A Call to Action For the Forest," which examines the pine beetle epidemic. The film, made for the nonprofit group For the Forest, is most striking for its aerial shots, which contrast the devastating browned-out, destroyed-forest approach of the insects with the vernal beauty of the Roaring Fork Valley. From the sky you see exactly what is at stake. "Doing nothing is doing something," says one of the film's commentators. Suffice it to say, Poschman wouldn't make a film about doing nothing.

The beautiful thing about having a short history is that everybody is still around to attend the big anniversary celebration.

    SNOWMASS VILLAGE -
That was the case yesterday during a party at Snowmass Village's new town hall, feting both the grand opening of the building - which has been in business since January - and two important milestones: the 40th anniversary of Snowmass Ski Area and the 30th anniversary of the town's incorporation.

"We're trying to make the case that there's a community here," said Greg Poschman, an Aspen filmmaker who produced the 17-minute documentary for the town as part of its anniversary celebration.

Taos Mountain Film Fest goes over the edge.

    October 5, 2006

The Taos Mountain Film Festival is geared up for a weekend of globe-spanning adventure for its sixth season.

"This represents the fun, enjoyment and pleasure that those of us who go to the mountains get," said Director Jonathan Slator, who founded the festival in September 2001.

"Land Out of Time" takes the issue of oil and gas drilling in Northern New Mexico and the rest of the Rocky Mountain West and turns it into high drama. It's awash in stunning cinematography. (It was photographed by the Emmy-winner Greg Poschman.)

Until now, preserving family memories or committing your own story to history for your children and grandchildren was a do-it-yourself proposition - or one reserved for a lucky few on television..."
